Through need-based scholarships given directly to institutions, the USG Foundation provides life changing education benefits to Georgia students across a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. The Foundation also manages endowment funds, maximizing investment return and minimizing risk, and thus providing consistent income to support student scholarships for generations.
The USG Foundation’s "Gap Funding", ranging from $500 to $1,500, helps students stay in school by covering the financial gap that might otherwise force them to withdraw.
The USG Foundation, in partnership with the University System of Georgia Board of Regents, funds capital projects and new facilities at USG institutions through below-market lease terms and tax-exempt bond financing. This helps reduce student fees, improve building efficiency, and enhance risk management for institutions.
The University System of Georgia Foundation's Annual Scholarship Gala is a vital event that brings together alumni, donors, and community leaders to raise funds for student scholarships, supporting access to higher education across Georgia. The 20th Annual Regents’ Scholarship and Awards Gala raised over $1.85 million to benefit need-based scholarships and capacity-building efforts for USG institutions in 2024 and 2025.
In a historic moment, the gala also celebrated a $10 million commitment from Fostering Success Act, Inc. to establish a first-of-its-kind scholarship fund for foster youth in Georgia, further advancing the Foundation’s mission to create opportunities and foster academic success for all students.
The University System of Georgia Foundation’s capacity building program helps institutions increase financial stability and engage with donors through competitive proposals for 1- or 3-year plans to boost philanthropic investments. In 2024, Kennesaw State University and Middle Georgia State University each received $50,000 grants. Proposals were selected by the CBG Committee.
The University System of Georgia Foundation supports professional development through tailored workshops, including sessions at the Georgia Education Advancement Council (GEAC) Conference. These workshops explore key topics like strategic alignment, fundraising trends, and public-private ventures, providing insights to help strengthen philanthropic efforts and stay current on industry trends. Continuous learning is essential for advancing the success of the university system.
